Alexander sipped his drink on a rooftop of one of the tallest buildings in the city and the other boys laughed.
“What’s got you all in a bunch Alex?” Ayden asked the other boys quieted and looked at him.
“That girl…” he said softer, “there’s something about her.”
“Claire?” Kelvin asked and he shook his head.
“Aura, Raven,” he muttered looking down, “I don’t know what, I just know.” A shot echoed in the distance an inaudible noise in the distance that made all four heads shoot around to look at it.
“Was that…” Kelvin muttered.
“The Sniper,” Kenn finished and the three boys looked over at Alexander who stood and clenched his fist.
“Let’s go.” With a devilish smile all four jumped off the building.
They were soon at the building top where an empty briefcase sat, all looking around, “he’s gone already.” Ayden muttered.
“Thanks Einstein, but that’s Kelvin’s job.”
“Hey!” he said in a growl, the others laughed and Alexander kneeled down touching the brick ledge before him where a small scratch had indented itself. Closing his eyes a sharp brief memory screamed in his ears, ‘Mom!’ someone screamed
‘Alexander, get back! Alexander!’
“Alexander!” Ayden shouted and he stood looking at the others, “you alright? You kind of zoned out there for a minute.”
“Yeah, I’m alright.”
“Shit, cops…”Kenn growled, “time to go.” He jumped off the building into the alley below.
“See you tomorrow guys.” Kelvin followed and Ayden and Alexander did the same.
The next day came fast upon the teens and school as school was dragged on. Lunch came on the Teens finally at Shady Run High School, and the band of brothers sat in the courtyard not eating merely sitting laughing and talking.
Alexander slowed his laugh to a stop and glanced around behind him, looking around a girl moved across the courtyard and sat at an empty table, her long hair done up with a few black feathers poking out. He stared at her and stood, walking towards her when Claire was in his face halfway there.
“Hey baby.”
“Not now Claire.” He grumbled, trying to move past her but she moved with him.
“Why? Going to your other girlfriend?”
“Claire, I broke up with you a month ago, lay off.” He said now looking directly at her, and then pushed past her walking over towards the girl and stopping just behind her; thinking of what to say next.
A cold shiver ran sharp up Auras spin and she set down her fork looking over her shoulder, she turned around, “what does a guy like yourself want with me?” she asked with a small smile.
He could only smile for a moment, “may I sit?”
“I suppose,” she said with a shrug turning around and continuing to eat.
It was silent for a few minutes after he sat, as he still thought of what to say. Just when he thought of something she laughed softly and looked at him, “am I on your threat list or something, you’re awfully quiet, like thinking of how to tell me you’re gonna beat me up because of your girlfriend over there giving you a death glare.” He turned and looked at Claire who was glaring then smiled looking back.
“Don’t worry about her, and no I’m not going to beat you up, quite the opposite actually, the boys and I are gonna hang out tonight, would you like to join us?”
She closed her eyes for a brief moment and tightened her hand around the fork.
“Are you alright?”
She took a deep breath and stood, “I can’t I’m sorry, I’ve got….” She paused and shook her head, “I’m sorry.” She left quickly and he sighed rubbing his forehead.
“Oh, crash and burn.” Ayden laughed and Kenn hit him, “ow, what was that for?!” Alexander walked back towards the group and Claire smiled.
“You can’t have any girl but me, I’ll make sure of that.” She whispered darkly in his ear before walking away with the other girls.
